Welcome Back to School!

Posted on September 5, 2011. Filed under: IRLA Class, Welcome! |

It is hard to believe that the summer is already over.  It flew by so fast!  I’m excited to start the new school year, and I’m really looking forward to getting to know all of my new students.

Through this blog post,  please share what you did over the summer.  Did you go anywhere exciting?  Read anything interesting?  Meet anyone new?

I got to travel to Chicago, Pittsburgh, the Poconos, and the Outer Banks in North Carolina this summer.  I was able to take a lot of pictures and write while I was on vacation, so I was pretty happy about that.

In Chicago, I stood on a glass platform of the 103rd floor of the Willis Tower…it was an amazing view, but I have to admit that I was pretty frightened by how high I was and that there was only a sheet of glass between me and the ground!  I didn’t stand out there too long; a few seconds of the view was enough for me.

Pittsburgh had me up pretty high too, on the famous Inclines.  I got to travel up a trolley car along the incline just like people used to do years and years ago to get to and from work in the city of Pittsburgh.  There were so many picturesque views up at the top!  Because we were so high and nothing was obstructing the view, I took several panoramic shots that came out really nicely.

I can’t wait to read about what you did this summer.

Ms. Morris 🙂

Mrs. Morris in you’re letter I saw that you said you went to North Carolina in 6th grade i went to the outer banks to. I think we both share a fear of heights also i went to Canada and Delaware.

What did you do in Canada? I’ve only been there once, and it was a long time ago…back when I was in 9th grade! I’d definitely like to go back in the future.

my summer was great i dunked and i went to this awesome camp in Connecticut for a week

I’m glad your summer was great, Jorge. What is “dunked”?

All that really happened over the summer is that I watered my friends plants. He said that his plant got taller when they were gone. I read a good book but I can’t remember what is was called. And this is really all that happened over summer to me.

Oliver, that was nice of you to water your friend’s plants! I’m glad you read a good book…can you remember the title yet?

I thought that your trip was pretty cool!

Thanks, Patricia. What did you do?

I got to go california it was fun i got to see lots of things.

Jean, what kind of things did you see in California? I’ve never been there!

My summer was pretty fun because I got to go see my family in Guatemala.I was so happy to see every one, I got to rid a motor cycle for the first time by my self and got to see my niece I was so happy to see her for the first time.when I left Guatemala it was pretty sad but I new that my parents and I will be going back again. After that I got to go to the beach for three days it was so fun and so hot. I took as many pictures as I could. When two months passed I was sad because school was coming up even though I new I was going to see my friends I didn’t what to go but the best of all was that I got to spend some time with my family and got to see the best reseller John cena I was so happy I got to see him and other people. And that was the best summer ever :).

Sounds like a great summer, Jacky! Writing about what you did during the summer will help you remember those good times!

in Canada we have kind of a guys weekend and we do lots and lots of fishing and golfing . Its like a bonding time for father and sun so what did you do in canada?

Danny,
I went to Canada with a friend’s family, so she and her brother and his friend and I did a lot of fishing as well. They had a house right on a lake, and we got to water ski (I wasn’t very good at it!) and canoe. It was a lot of fun because it was very different from what my own family did. We had campfires in Canada, made lots of ‘smores, and stayed outside pretty much the whole time we were there.

On my summer vacation my family and I drove to Dayton, Ohio for the 4th of July weekend. I had a lot of fun. I went to the movies with my grandma a lot. She and love to go to the movies. One of the main things I did was that my parents, brother, and sister drove back home and I stayed behind! A few days later I had to go to a wedding in Ohio with my grandma. This was my summer vacation.

Elizabeth, that sounds like a fun summer! What movies did you see?

Hello,I went to Ohio, West Virginia, and Virginia during Hurricane Irene because my family wanted to evacuate just in case. And we stayed at a motel until it was safe to go back. Thats what i did during the summer. 😀

Ahmed, That was at the end of the summer. What did you do before then???

Hey, you know what they say, better late than never, right?? I know we started this almost 2 weeks ago now, and I am just now writing to tell you all about my summer. If I were still a student, I would not get a very good homework grade for this, huh? 🙂

I love the summers for many reasons. As I know, I have mentioned this in class already, but I am sure not everyone was in class when we talked about our summers. As in most summers, I went to Ensenada, Mexico. This is located right along the Baja Penninsula on the west coast of Mexico. I work with high school groups that go down to build houses, teach little kids and work on teaching english and such. I love to do this and have developed a pretty deep relationship with many of the communities down there over the last 4 years of doing this. Right around the corner from the center where we live is a Tacqueria called Poblanos. I LOVE this place. Quesadillas with grilled pineapple are AMAZING! Steaming, sweet, salty, soft, delicious! The coastline is breath taking there, too. Watching the sun setting over the water with the mountains along the view still leaves me speechless every time. It always breaks my heart to leave, but know I will be back there again soon!

I am super excited to get to know more about all of you this year!

Miss Nordstrom 🙂
